Lüneburger Heide — what you should know
A nature reserve between Hamburg and Hannover, known for the heather bloom (August/September), hiking and cycling. Home to the Wilseder Berg, Heidschnucke sheep, and traditional sheepfolds. Popular for quiet getaways, wellness weekends and family holidays. Arrive by car via the A7/A1, or by train to Buchholz or Soltau.
Questions we get a lot
When does the heather bloom?
The classic heather bloom runs from mid-August to mid-September. Apartments book up quickly during this time — we recommend reserving at least four weeks in advance.
Are the apartments suitable for families?
Yes. Our heath apartments typically have two or more bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a garden or terrace. Ideal for families with children.
How do I get to the heath without a car?
By train to Buchholz, Schneverdingen or Soltau — from there, heath shuttle buses run to the major sights. For maximum flexibility, though, we recommend a car.
